About Laura Roney
I have always been an early riser, loving the calm of the morning when everything is still before the day really begins. When I started preparing for my first marathon of course those long runs were in the early morning. The quality of the light on the landscape is unique that time of day and the solitude of the run gave me time to ponder the effects of that warm light on the land. The color of that light changes in intensity during that hour as the sun gets closer to the horizon. The intense warm light further mutes the blues and greens of the landscape so the hues of the land vary with the angle of the sun. Additional factors affect the quality of the light. The color of the light can be very yellow to very orange depending on atmospheric conditions. These paintings capture this unique light on our landscape at various times within that magical golden hour in Sonoma County.
