Complex Background
Meagan took ballet lessons her every year she was in school through high school. Ballet was her passion. The Christmas before graduating from high school she was able to play a snowflake in the Nutcracker. Her mother’s favorite color is blue, so we placed Meagan in a nighttime snow scene.

   This painting is from a photograph taken about 1889 of this couple on their honeymoon at Niagara Falls. The skin tones were taken from the living relative commissioning the painting, and the colors of the clothing are from typical popular clothing colors from that time period

Sean was 15 yrs old in this painting. He greatly enjoyed swing music at the time of this painting, and this portrait of him in his fedora captures his look during his high school years

Evelyn is a sweet young lady born in Mexico and currently living in California. In the move from Mexico, the family couldn’t take their dog. The family wanted to include their loved pet in her portrait even though it couldn’t be with them.

Moderate Background
This portrait is of the Great Grandfather of a Napa Valley Vintner who inspired the vintner in the wine business. The skin tones were taken from this relative, and the clothing colors are typical of the early 1900’s when the photo was taken on which the painting was based

The Artist

Simple Background

  Charcoal presents the Artist with an interesting challenge as you can't use colors to describe the forms. Everything relies on Black, White or a shade of gray. A great artist can still capture the emotion and passion of a person in this medium.
